woolwich cc 25 tt

The team

The Club were 'invited' to organise the Kent Cycling Associations 3 Up Team Time Trial, and rose to the occaision on Sunday 2nd July.

The Event attracted teams from all over the region, with the Woolwich fielding four teams, including our Juvenile Girls, Two Road bike, and one TT Bike squad.

On a beautiful day,  57 Riders faced the Timekeepers , with the Club coming away with two firsts and a second place.

The girls won the Female award with a different squad make up of Andrea Gil, Emily Tanner, and Rianna Mahoney, lowering their time from last year to 1.08.17 approx 22 mph !

The back story to that is they had all raced in the London Youth Games the day before, and Andrea had been taken out , picking up knee grazes to contend with .

Our other 'First' was by new member Spencer Trivett who racing for the first time, had an interesting pre race routine. He was 'persuaded' to leave home at 3.30 am,
meet the organiser at HQ (his father in law, so no pressure) and drive the course erecting the course signage. Back to HQ, change, pump tyres and away. No problem !

Our TT bike squad was heading for a win when Nick punctured , leaving Alec and Lee Metson to finish with 54.16 as a  two up ( 2nd fastest on the day)
Our Road bike squad of Kristoff, Garfield, and Kevin finished 2nd.(57.21) and generously donated their Prize money (£60) to the Clubs Race fund. Thanks Lads.
With a second Road bike squad of Rob Dale, Mark Cole and Corey Johnson, the Club fielded 13 Riders which may be a record and shows , we are on
the way !

The riders and the event were backed up by 25+ volunteers covering the sign -on, course signage, timekeepers, recorders, results team, refresments etc.
Talking of which, the club provided the drinks and snacks and the award winning bread pudding was made and donated by the ' THE KITCHEN' at Speedgate Farm. (Retail £40+)

All proceeds (£78.00 and 20 USA cents (thanks smart guy) will be forwarded to the Kent Air Ambulance Service (You never know !)

The club covered 12  of the roles with KCA clubs combining to make it from what was aid on the day,  "a bloody good event !"

Huge Thanks to all contributors and encouraging to see the new and younger members getting involved, Gabriel Gil Marshalling with his dad and grandson William on the Result Board.

The future looks bright.
