Race Report 2025

RTTC National 12 hour Championship, 8th june

Jack entered into this daunting event as part of a field of 88 like minded people! I think I can say this is not an event for the faint hearted. I’ve done long rides, both time and distance, but with rest stops and never pushing the envelope of endurance in a time trial. The bare stats of the ride don’t do the effort required justice, 12 hours, 21+mph average & 250+ miles. The club has nothing but praise and admiration for the ride & the rider! To see the ride details, and a more succinct description of the effort, see Strava

Jack finished a very creditable 16= in the time trial bike event, and 21= overall. For the full results see the Cycling Time Trials website

CC bexley 10, 31st MAy, club championship race

Six Woolwich riders headed out to the Isle of Grain to contest the first club trophy of the season. They were ably supported by Terry and Neil. It was nice to see Manny sporting his national champions kit. It was a hot day in Grain and, as usual, the wind was not absent. It has been worse and was a headwind home but there has been worse days there.

Dave and Alex P posted PBs, Jimmy probably would have but was held up by a queue of cars who took time to overtake a slower rider in front of him. Alex P also managed to grab a podium place in the road bike category with a time of 22.47 which took the club trophy. Jimmy posted 23.17, Kristof 23.25, Manny 23.31, Dave 25.01, Alex W 26.53.

bigfoot cc Evening TT

MAy 21st

Kristof rode in the first event in this 10 mile evening series and although calling his time a bit of an off day he posted a time of 23.41

june 4th

Dave rode in the second event of the series posting a time of 26.09, not a great time on the face of it, but as the fastest time of the evening was 22.0 on a TT bike then it must have been tougher than it felt! Would expect someone to post a 20 point something.

Details of the series and the results can be found by clicking here.

CC Bexley Evening TT

April 30th

Alex, Kristof and Dave rode out to take part in the first of CC Bexley’s evening TT. On a 9 mile course, QS26, over Gorse Hill near Brands Hatch. All rode well, Kristof was the best placed on the night at 4th and Woolwich missed the team prize by only 44 seconds. Both Alex and Kristof topped their age category results. This a very informal event and will run every Wednesday evening throughout the summer. Would be nice to see more Woolwich riders take part and try their hand.

May 7th

Dave and Jack rode out to take part in the second evening TT of the series. The weather was massively different from last week, gone was the 20C+ temperatures and 10 riders faced a much colder ride. Long sleeves all round and some snoods were on show! Jack rode a weapon of a TT bike and posted a time 20.31 placing him 3rd behind a dead heat for first place. Dave rode 24.15 for 6th and 2nd road bike.

may 21st

Only Dave raced the 4th race in the evening series, the 3rd was cancelled due to emergency roadworks. Thankfully the predicted rain and/or thunderstorms did not materialise during the evening and the course was largely dry. Dave posted a time of 23.28.

may 28th

Dave and Alex W rode in the 5th race of the series. A slightly bigger field than last week, probably encouraged by the better weather. Dave posted a time of 22.54 & Alex a time of 24.04. Next weeks event, 4th June, is cancelled due to lack of volunteers.

june 11th

Dave and Alex W rode, again, in the 6th race in the series. A very nice evening as the weather is improving. Dave posted a time of 23.07 and Alex a time of 24.13, despite getting straight out of his car onto the start line. Who needs a warm up?

Full results, for the series, can be found here.

UCI Gran Fondo Cyprus - April 4th to April 6th

Dave Gearing rode in the UCI Gran Fondo in Cyprus, part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series. This is a three day event from which riders in various age categories can qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships finals later this year in both time trial and road race disciplines.

Day 1 as a 27.3km individual time trial, Dave came 5th in a time of 46 minutes 46.82 seconds, this 5th place was outside the qualification places.

Day 2 was an 89km road race, with about 1500/1600m of climbing, including a neutralised start of 17km. Dave was in the lead group of 5, 4 age group riders & 1 lady, which went away very early. One lone age group rider went away leaving the group of 4 to chase. Unfortunately Dave got cramp on the final climb, about 40km to go, and was forced to drop from the group but managed to stay away from the remaining chase groups and recovered enough to finish 4th in age group, a qualification place for the finals.

Day 3 was a 50km road race, 1200m of climbing. However the neutralised start was for all the combined age groups. Needless to say keeping track of your age group opponents in a 600/700 strong peloton is next to impossible. Dave managed to pick off a few in the early climbs but knew at least 3 others remained out ahead but not where. When the age group routes separated Dave was solo for many kilometres until a small group of about 5 formed with about 20km to go, one of which was Sylvan Adams owner of Israel Premier Tech. The group remained together until about 5km to go when Dave & 2 others broke clear, 1 age group opponent & the same lady rider from day 2. The lady dropped on the final uphill finish climb and Dave and his opponent rode in. Dave was 4th again, this was again a qualification place but not needed after day 2 qualification.

Spring in the Park, 5th April

Jake took part in the first race of the season at Cyclopark. He came 9th with the first 10 riders, in the boys U12 category, all finishing within 3 seconds of each other.

Full results can be found here.

East London Velo Spring Crits, 5th april

Kristof rode the first event in the ELV Spring Crits series at Hog Hill. Having initiated the break he decided to save a bit of energy in the face of 10 more ascents of Hog Hill. Once recuperated and with 5 laps remaining he tried to bridge to the three leaders but ended up doing a chasse patate and had to settle for 4th.

Gravesend CC Club 10 mile TT, 23rd march

A team of 4 rode the 50km (pro-level warm up!) to the Isle of Grain to participate in the TT on the Q10/24 course. Dave Gearing, Michele Usai, Corey Johnson and Alex Wootton were supported by Rob Dale and Alex Pearson. All rode well but were unfortunately held up by the level crossing being in use on the run in to the line so the times were not reflecting the efforts put in. All would have PB’d I’m sure!
