kca reliability trial 2022

WCC team at the start

Emily describes the event :

On the 30th of October, me, Andrea, Edward and Keith did the 50km KCA Reliability Trial, starting and finishing at Claybourne. It was an early start waking up at 5:45 am ready to pick Edward and Andrea up for 6.30-6.45 am. We were then on our way to the start for 8am!.

When we arrived it was already windy and torrential rain; but we put our waterproof jackets on and powered through it. At 5 miles the first hill was upon us. Working as a team me, Andrea and Edward raced up it taking it in turns on the front. After the second hill at around 7 miles we had a so-called rest break to fix a double puncture. By this point we weren't even half way but we found ourselves covered in mud and soaking wet - at one point I took my gloves off to wring them out!!. After we hit halfway it flattened out and we could push towards the finish line. For the last mile and a half we sprinted for the finish completing it in a time of 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Overall it was a good ride apart from the wet conditions. I would recommend this to the less confident riders as the roads are fairly quiet and you haven't got to race to get within the time limit.
