club track championships 2023

The Club used the latest visit to the Velodrome to hold our Track Championships. 18 riders signed up for the evening’s full on session. The Championships were run over two events, the first an individual timed flying lap and the second, points races for Youth and Senior riders.

Points were awarded for positions, which resulted with our younger riders coming out as Champions in both groups for 2023. Emily Tanner finished 1st in the Youth Group with 24 points, closely chased by Rianna Mahoney on 21 points. As a club first, India Rose Osborne and Andrea Gil made it 1.2.3.4 for the Girls.

The Senior hopefuls had to chase Edward Moore home who perhaps had an advantage using new wheels in preparation for his ride in the National Event at Newport the following Saturday. Edward amassed 24 Points, with Jimmy Hayward and Kristof De Beule tying for second place with 18 points each.

We then combined the groups to race together in an exciting Italian Pursuit with the final riders of each team finishing one length apart. A super effort by all the riders working together combining their skills. The youngest, India (11 years old) holding her own in the team, up to an undisclosed Track Veteran to show us how to do it.

Our newly qualified Track Coach Paul Smith and Terry B. stood as coaches for the session with sign-on duties, timing and records kept by parents Dee Tanner, Tom Mahoney, Adrian Osborne, Loui Gil and our Chairman Mark.
