Woolwich Cycling Club under 18 racing

Woolwich Cycling Club encourages all our young riders to compete at local, regional and national level. Youth categories are split into A (14-16 years) and B (12-14 years) (plus C, D and E) and Junior Level is for ages 17-18 years.

We have road & time-trial coaches, as well as track coaches, available to help with training and fitness, race preparation and racing at youth, junior and U23 levels.

For further information about youth and junior racing at Woolwich CC, please email one of our coaches (see Coaches and Team page), or complete the Enquiry Form at the bottom of this page

Training

  • Training is ongoing throughout the season, with group rides and training sessions at Cyclopark held regularly. Talent Development Centre (TDC) training sessions for Youth racers at Cyclopark are held on a Wednesday evening throughout the winter and spring.

  • Regional Schools of Racing (RSR) (British Cycling’s Talent Development Pathway for Youth riders).

Riders attend on a selection basis, dependent on them achieving certain criteria approved by the BC Talent Development coaches. You can read more about this pathway → here.

  • Spring in the Park

Woolwich CC has riders competing at the premier south-east circuit racing series: Spring in the Park. This event is held annually at Cyclopark, starting in April/May on Friday/Saturday evenings over 9 weeks in the spring, and hosts over 100 riders in youth categories A - E (8 - 16).

  • Track

The club hires out the velodrome at Lee Valley Velo Park as often as we can, which amounts to 3 or 4 sessions per year, where a mixture of ages and abilities all enjoy some fun and competitive cycling on the 2012 Olympic track.

Several youth/junior riders also participate in Track League racing at LVVP and also at the outdoor track at Herne Hill.

Race funds

We are proud of our racing heritage and those members that represent the club at any race meeting.  The club has in place a policy to give consideration to assisting members with racing expenses when it comes to competing on behalf of the club.

A race fund is in existence and members are encouraged to submit an application for reimbursement of racing costs after completing an event. Claims for expenses are not granted automatically but have to be assessed by the race fund committee to ascertain that they fall within current guidelines.

The race fund is intended to encourage more of our younger members to race in Woolwich colours.

If you would like to apply, please fill out the document below and send it to the club secretary.
