Club coach Jimmy McCormack is running an Olympic Celebration event at Cyclopark for age group up to 16 years on Saturday13-8-16.
From September 2016 when the new coaching/training session commences there is to be a change of direction when it comes to encouraging members to continue with the sport of cycling. It is hoped that the new strategy will encourage members to progress to the competitive side of the sport. Alternatively, members will be encouraged to become Youth leaders and perhaps eventually progress to the coaching side of the sport. Club member Jackie Hamilton is undertaking a B. C. coaching course. The course costs £450 against which there is a grant of £150 from B. C. the balance will come from the club.
The ongoing informal arrangement of splitting the numbers meeting on a Sunday morning into 3 groups is working. Attempts are made for all to meet up at the same café stop, which appears to be working to a fashion!
Membership: Concern has been raised about new club members joining the Club via the British Cycling club management electronic arrangement. The Club is advised by B. C. of the names of the new members electronically and the Secretary then arranges for the member to complete a membership application form. To date members coming via this method have already been known to the club through joining a Sunday club run and then committing to becoming a member. However, it has been pointed out that if a member is joining via this route and at the same time is applying for B. C. membership he or she will receive their B. C. membership card showing that they are a member of the Woolwich Cycling Club. This can happen before a new member is voted into the club. To be taken forward with B. C. at the forthcoming local area AGM.
Club Clothing: A number of members have pre ordered the new club kit (to the value of £800) but have failed to collect and pay despite a recent e-mail reminder. It was agreed that another reminder be sent and if no response the clothing will go into club stock. In the future members will have to pay for clothing up front.
