Extracts from the minutes of the meeting on 1-2-18
Racing: Members are encouraged to view members racing results via the racing log on the club’s website. Members racing/competing please add your results to the log. Robbie White's recent performances have now earned him 2nd category status. Robbie together with Hugh Smith have put the club in 8th position in the regional rankings. Matt Robertson has been performing well in the paracycling National championships; beating his personal best times, under 4 minutes for a pursuit. Six club riders, including members from the Go-Ride section, took part in the recent Cyclopark cyclocross events.
Events: The summer in the park race series (10 evening events), at Cyclopark, is to be going ahead again this year. The club is down to man the event on 6th July 2018. (10 helpers required). In addition, the Club is to promote an event at Cyclopark (3-hour slot which will allow two races to be run: Juniors/Ladies and 3/4th cat). Dates elected for either 4th or 18th August (Saturdays). Terry Blake to liaise with Cyclopark to confirm what date is available. It has been highlighted that we ensure that no other races are being run in the area on the same dates to avoid clashes; which in turn may result in diluted fields of participants.
Go-Ride: Anne Wright was present on the night to receive clubperson of the year for what she has done for the Go-Ride section over the years. Anne advised that on average 12/15 members are turning up for the Saturday morning sessions. The section would like to attract more new members. The Club is to explore getting access to local schools, through a contact at Bexley Council, to promote Go-Ride. Consideration is also being given to running a Go-Ride race. The club, a few years ago, ran a Go-Ride hillclimb which proved very popular with members from other South East Go-Ride clubs.
Clubruns: Club runs continue, attracting some new participants. It was mentioned that not many participants wear club clothing. Efforts to be made to persuade members to buy club clothing especially as we only last year changed the style of the club jerseys. Alex Pearson, who holds the stock on behalf of the club, is to be asked to come along to the next meeting with samples and hopefully take orders.
New registration arrangements for the South East Road Racing League. See SERRL website for the details. The League no longer requires clubs to affiliate, only individual riders/members.
Terry Blake is running a coaching session on behalf of the B. C. South East region on Sunday 4th February 2018.
Club members recently met to decide a way forward for the racing section of the club. It was outlined that senior members/coaches will be available to help guide members who are racing/thinking of racing when it comes to training, identifying races, putting teams together for individual races, riders communicating their intentions etc. More meat to be put on the bones of the idea at the next meeting (1-3-18). All members more than welcome to come along and share ideas.
Prize Presentation: The presentation of trophies was made on the night;
Clubperson of the Year Anne Wright. The award goes to Anne for her dedication to the Go-Ride section. Anne has given, over the years, her time and effort to the section which is very much
appreciated by the club and it is recognised that the Go-Ride section would not be where it is today without Anne's unselfish contribution.
Senior 10mile T. T. and Junior 10-mile T. T. Both cups go to George Martin. George won the trophies while taking part in the DeLaune CC 10 on 3rd June 2017.
Track and Hillclimb: Both awards go to Jimmy Hayward. Jimmy won the hillclimb cup when taking part in the Wigmore C.C. event on 1st October 2017. Not only did Jimmy finish 1st on the day; he also broke the course record. In addition, the club won the team award.
