Club member Jim Carroll,
along with Jay Sandford and John White, competed in the Thanet Duathlon on
Sunday 6th January 2008 at Minnis Bay. This is considered Thanet's toughest
event and comprises a 2.4 mile road run, followed by a 9-mile mountain bike leg
and, finally, a 4.5 mile cross-country run over farmland, farm roads and
seaside promenade.
Jim achieved a very respectable time of 2 hours and 34 seconds overall in tough,
boggy conditions, finishing 50th out of a field of more than 75 competitors.
John, who will be familiar to those who go out on the Sunday club-run, won the
over-60's category and finished 20th overall.
Any mountain-bikers looking for a challenge in 2009 should consider entering
this event.
